Journal 7 - December 17
Last night was an awesome night of dancing!
First I went to Tango Brujo practica with Michael from NY. Normally, Matias/Kara & Gaston/Mariella host this practica but last night was only Gaston. We worked on different ways to get out of a parada, like hooking and lifting the leg or moving the followers leg to the other leg... Then ways to get into a back to back position. It was just expermiental so Gaston gave us some examples to start working with, and we were on our own. I was "on" in my dancing, and Michael and I were able to get some really interesting moves. Alot with hip direction change for the follower. In the end, we all showed our different options in front of the class. It was a good practica. I wish I could have been there when the 4 teachers were there. This would definitely be one of the practicas I would go to.
Then with a bunch of us from the class, we headed towards practica x. The place was renewed with a bigger space, and new floors. I liked it alot except that the floor was tiles and it is really hard on your feet. I had pretty decent dances with different people, and then I got to dance with Claudio. I have been getting dances with him every night since I've been here. He is a wonderful dancer and we have good connection since the first night, so I enjoy dancing with him, but it was quite a difference last night! I guess I was really "on" in my dancing. No wine! ;) We danced probably like 20 songs at least, tango/milonga/vals. Since it was really hot, we got drenched and my feet were killing me, but we danced on until we finished the practica. Later on, I found out that he is a professional that travels around the world teaching and performing. He had come to LA in August and taught. I hope he will visit LA again!
My feet had blisters underneath and was killing me, so I head back to the apartment. After 30 minutes, I change my mind and head to Caning. It was like 2am when I got there, and Los Reyes del Tango was playing their last 3 songs. Wonderful, awesome, I wish I had been there earlier to dance to them! Oh well! I saw Ernesto (a dancer, I forgot his last name) and got a tango with him. I couldn't connect with Ernesto too well but it was a decent dance. I danced with some others like, Mauro and Ney, who I connected well with, and then a beginner of less than a year who danced quite well, and I was able to enjoy the dance. I greeted Diego & Negracha who I know from my last trip as well as seeing them again in LA. I saw Ezequiel Paludi and Geraldine Rojas, the fairly new couple, but they kept to themselves.
I left because my feet couldn't take anymore dancing but I had a really good night of dancing. It's hard to think I only have until Saturday... Wish I could enjoy the dancing here more!!
Today, I woke up, went to Callao and Corrientes to stop by Citibank, then head to Fabio shoes. Fabio shoes has those dance sneaker like heeled shoes. More finess than a capezio or bloch dance shoe. So, once again, shoe shopping... ;) I got 2 pairs. One that's high heeled, and another that's more comfortable and low. There's plenty of different designs and if they are as comfortable as said, they would be perfect practice shoes.
I walked out a happy customer again, and walked down Callao. I was heading towards linea D to go to the artist's house to get my paintings! I passed Zivales the tango music store and got to the station, hopped on the train to Olleros in Belgrano area. She lived in a small cozy apartment and was full of her art works and supplies. We chatted for 1 hour or so, about her paintings, and about my tango. I liked her nice artwork, it was her personality and sweet. I got 2 pieces, one with "keys" as a motif, and the other with "maps" as a motif. I have an artwork on my wall with a door nob and a key. There's something about keys that intrigue me, opening up to something new, the only matching key, a new exploration. And then my new map artwork... adventure, unknown world, distant country... I can't wait to put it up on my wall.
I now have to run back to the apartment to get ready to go to the class at tango brujo. Then to more dancing...!
